Barbara Wiles – Artist Statement

“Watercolor painting has become a full time passion. The art of applying water and paint to paper and watching what the colors do has always been intriguing to me. The medium is truly MAGIC!”

Artistic vision? “I just paint and hope the viewer will identify with some part of the scene. Most of all, I hope you’ll enjoy my work.”

Barbara Wiles - Artist Biography

Barbara Mcfarland Wiles grew up in the small beach community of El Segundo, CA. Spending much time sketching and painting as a youth, she always wanted to be an artist. Her watercolor journey took a lengthy detour, however.

Barbara enjoyed a 40-year career in animation. She worked in the Ink and Paint and Animation Check departments of Hanna-Barbera Studios. Favorite shows included The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, and The Smurfs. Barbara concluded her Animation Checking career at the Walt Disney Feature Animation Studio in Burbank, CA. Her screen credits include The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, and Tarzan.

Barbara now lives at the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, CA. Since retiring in 2004, she is free to pursue her passion-watercolor. She studies with Cathy Quiel in Santa Barbara and loves to paint, paint, paint! Both as a plein air and studio painter, her works reflect many of her favorite things including animals, travel, and anything nautical.

A member of the Buena Ventura Art Association and Los Padres Watercolor Association, Barbara currently exhibits both locally and in Pacific City Gallery on the Oregon Coast.
