The Ojai Group

Diane Hanley is a lifelong Ventura County resident.  She has been an artist for about 25 years.  She started out painting oils while attending Ventura College.  About 10 years ago she discovered watercolor  and has been working exclusively in this medium ever since.  She is the current president of the California Gold Coast Watercolor Society.

Diane has studied with Phylis J. Doyon, Karen Vernon, Cathy Quiel, and Bob Learner among others. Diane has paintings in collections through out the United States, Mexico, and Europe .  She has had seven solo shows and has been in many group shows and juried competitions. In 2007, she was awarded “Best of Show” in the CGCWS Annual Show. She also belongs to the National Watercolor Society, the Santa Barbara Art Association, and is a founding member of The Ojai Group of Artists.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am continually inspired to paint by images of nature.  It is my desire to provide the viewer with a similar feeling of relaxation and wonder at the beauty nature provides.  When I have captured the height of a flower’s full bloom, I feel joy that the fleeting moment of the flower has been transformed into a lasting image.  Whether they spend minutes absorbed in the picture or just catch a glance as they walk through the room it is my hope to have lifted their spirits with an image of beauty.  Painting gives me an outlet for self-expression and is a path a to never ending discoveries.
